ABSTRACT
Background and Objectives: The study was carried out to find out the effect of hip abductor strengthening among non-professional cyclists with iliotibial band friction syndrome.
Subjects:  40 non-professional cyclists with ipsilateral ITBFS subject including male and female age between 18 to 50 with positive ober’s and nobble test were included in this study.
Methods: 40 subject were selected according to the inclusion criteria and they were assessed pre and post for ROM (hip adduction, IR), hip abductor strength and pain using goniometer,sphygmomanometer and VAS. Subject were assign experimental group(group A 20 subject) who received IT band stretching,US,and hip abductor strengthening exercise and control group (group B 20 subject)  who received same treatment except hip abductor strengthening.
Data Analysis and Results:  Based on statistical analysis using Wilcoxon test to compare the pre and post test pain in both group,Mann- whitney U- test  to compare the post test pain scores of between groups ,Paired t - test  to compare the pre and post ROM and strength in both groups, Unpaired t – test  to compare post test ROM in between groups showed  that pre post difference within group A there was significant difference for adduction ROM (p value <.0001),IR (p value <.0001),VAS(p value <.0001),and strength improve pre mean 40.80 to post mean 66.30 (p value <.0001).However in group B adduction ROM and VAS were found to be significant.
In comparision in difference between groups it was found that adduction ROM,IR ROM,VAS and strength all were significant. Baseline data for outcome variable were not statistically significant.   
Conclusion:  Based on outcome variable there was significant difference of hip abductor strengthening among non-professional cyclist with iliotibial band friction syndrome.

ABSTRACT
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to identify the prevalence of obesity among the musculoskeletal patients who attended musculoskeletal department of Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paraleysed (CRP) to receive physiotherapy service. The study was conducted in order to find the information related to demography, prevalence of obesity by age and sex, the main musculoskeletal disorder among the obese participants, as well as the distribution of chronic disease including hypertension and   diabetes   among   the   obese participants. 
Methodology: A   cross sectional survey was conducted to collect data from 162 participants aged between 18-75 years. 
Results: Prevalence of obesity was 12.3%, with 55% were ≥ 50 years and 45% were < 50 years, 60% of whom were females and 40% were males. Out of 162, 20 patients were obese who complained at least one musculoskeletal problem. Among the 20 patients osteoarthritis of the knee (10, 50%) was the most common musculoskeletal disorder followed by low back pain (7, 35%), ankle sprain (1, 5%), neck pain (1, 5%) and calcaneal spur (1, 5%). Most of the obese shared that they had no hypertension (13, 65%) and diabetes (17, 85%) where rest of the patients suffered with hypertension (7, 35%) and diabetes (3, 15%). 
Conclusion: Prevalence of obesity is rapidly increasing day by day in the world. Now-a-days obesity is a burning question. It is essential to identify the prevalence of obesity among musculoskeletal patients of Bangladesh.

Abstract
Background: The most common approaches used in Total Knee Replacement surgery are Midvastus, subvastus, median parapetellar, lateral patellar and trivector approach. There is uncertainty as to the best surgical approach to the knee joint for knee replacement. Median parapetellar approach is the standard of practice, but off late quadriceps sparing approaches as like subvastus and midvastus are performed. Subvastus approach has its own limitation of less joint exposure. In our clinical setup, orthopaedic surgeons perform median parapetellar and midvastus approach. The present study has compared outcome of knee function between a standard median parapetellar arthrotomy and mid vastus arthrotomy for patients undergone primary total knee arthroplasty. The post op quadriceps function depend on the type of surgical approach
Materials and methods: 30 subjects were recruited who had undergone Total knee arthroplasty with Median parapetellar and Midvastus approach at Sri Ramachandra medical hospital; received standard physiotherapy care. The pre-op and post quadriceps angle were measured and the quadriceps, hamstrings isometric muscle strength and 6 minute walk test  of the patients were recorded at the time of discharge and after one month of follow-up, and the data were statistically analyzed. 
Results: Median parapetellar and Midvastus approach were significant within the groups; with respect to quadriceps angle (QA) (p<0.05), isometric strength of quadriceps (QS) (p<0.05) and 6 minute walk test (WT) (p<0.05). On comparing between the groups at one month follow-up isometric strength of hamstrings (HS) (p<0.01) and 6 minute walk test (p<0.01) were found to be significant.
Discussion: Findings show that Mid-vastus approach provides better results in terms of quadriceps angle, isometric strength of quadriceps and 6 minute walk test compared to median parapetellar approach.
Conclusion: Study concludes that, the isometric strength of quadriceps and hamstrings has improved at the time of discharge and after one month of follow up (within the group). However no much significant changes seen between the groups.

ABSTRACT

Background and Objectives: Plantar fasciitis is a common foot disorder in which patients have pain and tenderness at the sole of the foot. Rest, exercises, orthotics, taping, cryotherapy, therapeutic ultrasound, electrical stimulation, whirlpool bath, and iontophoresis have been widely used to relieve plantar pain. Long term use of manual therapy techniques like myofascial release technique, positional release therapy and passive stretching have been  used  in the past to reduce pain and  improve ankle range of motion. The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the immediate effectiveness of myofascial release technique, positional release therapy and passive stretching on pain response and ankle flexibility in chronic plantar fasciitis. 
Material and methodology: A total of 60 participants with chronic plantar fasciitis were randomly allocated to Group A (myofascial release group) and Group B (positional release group) and Group C (passive stretching). Therapeutic ultrasound with intensity of 1W/cm2 and frequency of 1MHz for 5 min was given for a single session to all the patients and then given the manual techniques. Visual analogue scale, range of motion of the ankle were outcome measures that were assessed pre- and immediately post-interventional. 
Results: The study demonstrated statistical significant reduction in pain, in all three groups (p<0.0001). Ankle range of motion showed significant improvement in Group A (MFR). Group C (passive stretching) demonstrated significant improvement (p=0.001) as compared to Group B (PRT). 
Conclusion: All three manual techniques with therapeutic ultrasound were effective in immediate relief of pain and improving ankle range of motion in subjects with chronic plantar fasciitis.

This innovative article elucidates the scopes of different types of perfect humeral head spinning to give new researching foundation for valid exercise innovations in the domain of shoulder strengthening and rehabilitation.

Abstract:
Background: The effect of electrical stimulation on motor outcomes around shoulder in acute hemiplegia is elusive. We tested the effect of stimulation of specific muscles around shoulder on motor outcome in shoulder in patient with hemiplegia.
Methods: 32 first time hemiplegic patient of stroke origin were randomly allocated to control and experimental group. Experimental group received electrical stimulation apart from exercises given to both the groups for 2 weeks. Deltoid, infraspinatus and upper trapezius were stimulated, along with attempt to contract the muscles. Stroke Rehabilitation Assessment of Movement (STREAM) upper components and manual muscle testing were used for evaluation of outcome. Wilcoxon sign rank test and chi-square tests were used for statistics.
Results: Experimental group demonstrated greater recovery compared to control group. In both groups trapezius muscle work showed improvement in large number of patients followed by deltoid. STREAM score changes were seen a more number of patients in experimental group than control group. 
Conclusion: Electrical stimulation can be considered as an adjunct to exercises around shoulder in early stroke rehabilitation

Abstract:
Physiotherapists must learn the biomechanics of lunge in detail to clearly understand its significance in human life and implement effective training measures to overcome the limiting factors of proper lunge of their clientele. To understand the biomechanical value of every movement, interesting experimental learning methods must be employed to kindle the Physiotherapists to actively take part in research activities from the under-graduate level onwards. Lungeometry is a novel, simple and inexpensive experimental investigation of lunge, applying basic geometrical methods taking near normal lower limb length dimensions and rationale approaches into consideration. Lungeometry can give a foundation to learn other forms of lunges like forward lunge, weighted lunges, lateral lunges. This model of learning biomechanics of movements using fundamental geometry techniques is expected to strongly connect with any futuristic Physiotherapy curricular structure.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Low back pain has a significant impact on the individual’s family, socio-economic status, occupation, health system, community. Stretching is included as a part of treatment regimen for low back pain. Much controversy exists on the type of stretching technique and parameters which would prove beneficial to improve flexibility. Aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of active stretching over passive stretching, on the functional performance among patients with low back pain. Materials and method: 52 subjects with mechanical low back pains in the age group of 20-50 were enrolled for the study. Flexibility measurement and Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Index was used as the primary outcome measure. Flexibility of Iliopsoas was measured using the modified Thomas test; Flexibility of Hamstring was measured using the active knee extension test. The subjects underwent 7 days of therapy sessions, after 7 days of therapy the individuals where re-assessed for flexibility and they were asked to fill the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire. Results: 52 subjects were enrolled in the study, of which 36 subjects completed the study, among them 18 subjects in the control group and 18 subjects in intervention group. For independent groups paired t-test was used. Using the paired sample t-test significant difference was measured between the pre and post of the intervention group and control groups a significant difference of .001 was achieved in both the groups (P=.001). Discussion: The results of the present study prove that both active and passive stretching is beneficial in improving the flexibility of tight muscles in the lower limbs. Also both active stretching and passive stretching has a profound effect on the functional aspect in patients suffering with low back pain. Conclusion: The result of present study conveys that both active and passive stretch is helpful in improving the flexibility in the major muscle groups of lower extremity. Scope for further studies is open with a larger sample size, homogenous parameters of treatment.

ABSTRACT:
Lateral epicondylalgia is a degenerative musculoskeletal pain state characterised by pain over the lateral humeral epicondyle resulting in absenteeism from work and daily living activities. It is most prevalent in jobs requiring repetitive manual activities of the upper extremity. Literature describes different treatment options for lateral Epicondylalgia but there is no consensus about the most efficacious intervention strategy. Taping (athletic/kinesio) has been used successfully in various musculoskeletal conditions with successful results. To date, no study has investigated the effect of kinesio taping in lateral epicondylalgia. The purpose of the study was to investigate and compare the effects of kinesio taping and athletic taping on pain and muscle performance in patients with lateral epicondylalgia. 16 patients (9 males, 7 females) within age group of 18 – 50 years participated in the study. It was a cross over design. VAS, digital al goniometer and Jamar Dynamometer were used to quantify pain, pressure pain threshold and pain free grip strength. These were evaluated pre taping, immediately after taping and after 30 minutes of each taping application selected randomly for two consecutive days. Repeated measures ANOVA and percentage change were used to examine differences in outcome measures.  Bonferroni correction was applied to correct for repeated testing. The results showed significant pain reduction and increase in grip strength after both the taping techniques but no statistically significant differences for any outcome measure between the two taping techniques (p>0.05). Also the immediate pain reduction was more after athletic taping (21%) than kinesio taping (10%) that corresponded to the immediate increase in pain free grip strength more after athletic taping (14.5%) than kinesio taping (9.7%). 30 minutes later both the outcome measures gave similar percentage changes . The present study concludes with the recommendation of both athletic taping as well as kinesio taping for gaining short term improvements in pain and muscle performance in patients with lateral epicondylalgia.

ABSTRACT:
Background: Burn is an injury cause destruction of skin and underling tissue. Post burns complications are severe. Objective of this study is to identify the effects on the Active Range of Motion (AROM) of upper limb/s, hand functions and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) who attend the physical therapy department of burns unit.  
Methodology: It was a descriptive cross sectional study carried out at out-patient physical therapy department of burns unit of National Hospital of SriLanka (NHSL). Fifty subjects recruited into the study. Interviewer assisted self administered questionnaire Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder,Hand Questionnaire (DASH), AROM of nine movements of shoulder and elbow joints and hand function assessment Signals of Functional, Impairements of hand (SOFI) was used to collect data. 
Results: Study results showed that Flame burns were the most common burn type and majority of the victims were females. Study population had affected AROM in almost all the movements at the joint, which had affected to the ADL significantly. “Keeping an object shelf above head” and “engaging in heavy work”, showed significant correlation with movements of shoulder. SOFI score for the right hand showed significant correlation with selected Activities of Daily Living (ADL) (“writing”,” using knife to cut food” opening a jar” etc ;). 
Conclusion: patient with burn injury including upper limb joints may encounter disabilities. Even though it is mild AROM restrictions at a joint, This restriction affects to persons’ independency in ADL s. This emphasizes the need of intensive medical care as well as long term physical therapy rehabilitation programme for burns patients.  
Limitations: Each subject’s AROM was not measured at their discharge which was already stated to be a limitation.
